Missing Woman’s Body Found after Omal Falls Flood

PHNOM PENH: The body of a woman who went missing in a flash flood early Sunday morning has been found. The Kampot Police announced the discovery this afternoon after the woman had been missing for four days.

Kampot Police Commissioner Mao Chanmathurith said that she was one of three victims who had been camping at the Omal Falls campground Saturday night, only to be swept away in their tents by a flash flood combined with a landslide around 4 am on Sunday. One of the victims was later found alive and another, 19-year-old Ken Srey Ratna, was reported dead at the scene. Police then continued the search for Phorn Srey Kouch for three days and posted on Facebook this afternoon, “The body of Khouch has been found." They have not released any further details.

Omal Falls is about 11km from Kampot city and a popular natural tourism destination for locals and foreigners alike. Kampot Province, along with Kep and Sihanoukville has experienced heavy rains over the last few weeks causing flooding and landslides, damaging infrastructure and homes along the way. The two campers at Omal Waterfalls have been the only fatalities recorded from the flooding.
